CampCritter Privacy Policy

Last updated July 7, 2026

This policy describes how CampCritter (“CampCritter,” “we,” “us”), a product of Moonberry Tech, collects, uses, and shares information when you use the CampCritter apps (Android, iOS) and website (collectively, the “Service”). CampCritter helps campers find campgrounds, plan shared trips, build packing checklists, and keep photo-rich trip logs.

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, a username or display name, and a profile photo if you choose one. If you sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple, we receive the name, email address, and profile photo associated with that account. Authentication is handled by Firebase; we do not receive or store your third-party account password.

Location

With your permission, CampCritter uses your device's location to show nearby campgrounds and to tag the location where a trip photo was taken. Location access is only requested when you use a feature that needs it, and you can deny or revoke it at any time in your device settings — the app continues to work without it, with reduced convenience for nearby search.

Camera and photos

CampCritter requests camera and photo library access so you can add photos to trip logs, campground reviews, and your profile. Photos you upload may include embedded location data (EXIF) if you allow location tagging; you control whether each photo includes that data.

Content you create

We store the trips, checklists, checklist items, trip log entries, campground reviews, and campground submissions you create. Trip details and checklists are visible to the participants you invite to a trip. Campground reviews and photos you submit may be shown publicly to other CampCritter users.

Usage and device data

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (for example, which features are opened, or when an account is created) and Firebase Crashlytics-style crash diagnostics to keep the app stable. This includes device type, operating system version, app version, and general usage events. We also collect standard web analytics on campcritter.app once analytics is enabled there.

Push notifications and email

If you enable notifications, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver trip and account notifications to your device. We send transactional email (such as account and trip notifications) through our email provider, Brevo.

Purchases

Trail Pass subscription purchases are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We receive confirmation of your purchase and its status (active, expired, refunded) so we can unlock the associated features; we do not receive or store your payment card details.

How we use information

  • Provide and operate core features: campground search, trip planning, checklists, and trip logs.
  • Let trip participants coordinate by sharing trip details, checklists, and logs within a trip.
  • Show public campground reviews and photos to help other campers.
  • Send notifications and transactional email related to your account and trips.
  • Process Trail Pass subscription purchases and manage entitlements.
  • Maintain, secure, debug, and improve the Service, including diagnosing crashes and abuse.
  • Moderate user-submitted content (reviews, photos, campground submissions) for quality and safety.
  • Respond to support requests, including account deletion requests.

How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these situations:

  • Trip participants— people you invite to a trip can see that trip's details, checklist, and log entries.
  • Public content— campground reviews, ratings, and photos you submit may be visible to any CampCritter user.
  • Service providers— infrastructure and processing partners that help us run the Service, including Firebase/Google (authentication, push notifications, analytics), our self-hosted image storage, Brevo (transactional email), and Google Play / Apple App Store (subscription billing). These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms.
  • Legal reasons— if required to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect the safety of our users or the Service.

Your choices and rights

  • Location, camera, and photo permissions can be granted, denied, or revoked at any time in your device settings.
  • You can turn off push notifications in your device settings or in-app notification preferences.
  • You can delete your account and personal profile data at any time from Profile → Delete Account in the app, or by submitting a request on our account deletion page. Public contributions such as reviews, logs, and photos may remain visible without your personal profile attached, consistent with how shared and public content works on the Service.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Contact us using the details below to make a request.

Data retention and security

We retain account and trip data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and we delete personal profile data upon a verified deletion request as described above. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Children's privacy

CampCritter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service changes. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
